The Internal Medicine Service team investigates, diagnoses and treats the following conditions and illnesses: 

- Anemia and other blood-related conditions
- Diarrhea, vomiting or other gastrointestinal related conditions
- Endocrine-related or hormone-related problems, such as diabetes, thyroid diseases, Addison's disease and Cushing's disease
- Immune mediated diseases
- Infections
- Infectious diseases
- Kidney and urinary problems
- Liver, pancreas and splenic changes
- Respiratory illnesses such as asthma, bronchitis, tracheal collapse and lung ailments
- Unexplained weight loss

Your family veterinarian may refer you to the VSH Internal Medicine Service if your pet has complex issues, if a diagnosis is elusive, or if your pet is not responding to standard treatments.  

State-of-the-Art Internal Medicine Equipment

VSH is amongst the most advanced and well-equipped veterinary medical hospitals in the region.  Our state-of-the-art veterinary medical facilities includes the very same medical equipment found in human hospitals throughout the world, including a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT), fluoroscopy (C-ARM), ultrasound and echocardiogram machines, and digital radiography.

The Internal Medicine Service at VSH is equipped with flexible endoscopes with high-resolution video and rigid scopes for laparoscopy and thoracoscopy.  Working closely with the Diagnostic Imaging Service at VSH, state-of-the-art, high-resolution ultrasound machines are routinely used to perform abdominal and thoracic imaging, along with non-invasive biopsy and aspiration procedures.  High-resolution digital fluoroscopy systems enable procedures such as gastrointestinal/esophageal motility evaluation as well as numerous other interventional treatments and procedures.
